Question for the Brits on my Friends list..
I've researched and googled till my fingers are blue..

In Great Britain, during WW2, did you have a draft? All I come up with is answers for the USA..

any help would be good.. just a yes or no would be good and what branches they drafted to?

Such as Medical personal..

Thanks

Hi

The answer is yes, we certainly did, but the reason you haven't found it is because it was called conscription, military service or national service, not draft. Try here http://www.historyonthenet.com/WW2/conscription.htm or http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/timeline/factfiles/nonflash/a1138664.shtml or http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/2WWconscription.htm

Everyone in the country, male and female, who was considered of suitable age, was called up unless they were in protected occupations such as mining, steelworkers etc who were vital to running the country. Women took over farming, factory work etc to free the men to go to war. The links should help!
